Default Many Thanks

Thanks again for all the info people.

I do believe the warranty was 3 years 36K miles.

The insurance auction is a good idea but I think that would up my labor for the shop a bit as they would have to remove two engines instead of one.

Appreciated the shared knowledge!

Default Fenders

yeah, the fenders were part of the conversion done on it before i purchased it.

It is a "Baja Champions" edition and I don't think they made too many, I have seen one like it in the past 3 years. I'm pretty sure they are fiberglass aftermarket fenders that they painted to match the stock silver and give the truck the ability to run larger tires.

I've seen a boosted motor where it "tuliped" the valve, basically ran hot/lean and the lip of the valve just folded over to where it wouldn't completeley seat anymore. Truck ran like a bag of ****, but did zero damage to anything but the valve. Get the motor leaked down and find out where it's losing compression. If it's top end, you're not nearly as bad off. DO NOT let dealer talk you into anything untill you find out. Looks like a rare truck, I've never seen or heard of one.

my 2001 5.4 triton, 85,000 miles on it, blew the motor one day, no warnings what so ever, crusing down the interstate to work and as if I shut the key off. When I attempted to start it, I realized it was a bit more than turning off the key by the way it sounded & realized I blew the motor, WTF?

A month earler I had brought the truck to a muffler shop to have the passenger's side manifold gasket replaced cause for what ever reason it let go & I hate a vehical with exhaust problems.
The mechanic said he could replace the gasket for $85 but prefered I took it to a Ford dealor to see why the gasket let go in the first place. He felt if he went ahead with the replacement without finding the reason why it blew I could loose my motor within a month.
Happy that he offered me that info I called & dropped it off at a local Ford Dealer. I explained what the mechanic said & the Ford service manager said never heard of that problem & probably just did not want to do the swap out. I said, think about this, they are a muffler shop, this is what they do, complete brake & exhaust work, so why would they not want to?
With only 85,000 miles on it, humor me & please check it out before replacing the gasket or at least let me know a Ford dealer that would.
$385.00 later I picked it up. Service manager said he had it looked at by their head mechanic & found nothing.
27 days later going to work, the motor blew. Had it towed to another dealer & a brand new motor installed. They believed who ever changed the spark plugs last used a plug that was to hot for it & it burnt out the pistons.
Sad thing is since new this truck has only ever been serviced by Ford dealers. The muffler shop was the only time it has ever been to another shop.
So don;t know if hot plugs were the cause or not, but without warning it, (other than the manifold gasket blowing) it went just like that.
I wanted the old motor so I could have it looked at to determine why & when I asked where it was they said they used it for a core. (After I explained if a core was needed, I would pay the difference & after I learnt why it blew then bring it in)
Dunno why yours did this, but I know how ya feel
