Default Opinions on reason for blown engine wanted.

'06 F-150 50K miles with 5.4L and ROUSH Supercharger. Everything was fine and then running rough when floored. Brought into dealer and started looking for problem. Codes were Cat Conv failure and cylinders dropping out. New Plugs, same problem. Removed Valve Cover, nothing seen, bore scope in #8 cyl which had only 85 psi, no scoring or abnormalities. They say that to tear it down to find problem and fix one cylinder would be very pricey. They recommend new long block which is $4400 and then $2200 in labor. What the hell happened? Does anyone have a guess? Is a new engine my best hope and value for my money? Anyone looking for an otherwise perfect condition crew cab loaded and customized? I'm sure someone can do the work themselves and have a great truck. I don't know if I can swallow $7,000 for this truck to work again. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have. I have some pictures of the truck I will try an put in my profile or email me at fishman1781@yahoo.com Thank you again for any replies!

I'm thinking that you may have a compresson ring stuck in the piston groove. because no comp. and no scoring.

If it's a stuck ring a good trick is to pour a quarter of a quart of Rislone in it and let it soak for the weekend. I used to do that to my wife's Vega that burned oil and it would be great then.

search around i found an f150 that was wrecked hit broad side the guy got the insurance money then sold me the wrecked truck with a good motor and trans for 200.00 so now my 2000 f150 has a motor with only 25000 miles on it also you can join an insurance car auction for maybe 200.00 then get a wrecked truck for a few hundred and your still ahead of the game good luck with whatever you decide

Default Too Much Boost:

Perhaps the boost was too high for a bit under max load; detonation occurred and blew out some of the ring lands. The pistons must be pulled to check for damage. Check the pan for pieces of broken rings/pistons.

Blowing out the lands can occur in an instant....happened to my turbo Pinto when the water injection failed.
