If you do anything the most I'd do is this https://www.americantrucks.com/afe-m...lter-0917.html
That's it. Stock performs great.

I might get a K&N filter but not a CAI...and even the K&N doesn’t do a lot except let you clean it...Some say the paper filter is just as good.

Thank you all for the replies...

My next question was opened up by Notgrownup...

What do you guys think about just getting a K&N or other brand paper filter versus the recommended Ford brand?

i wouldn’t bother myself, the motorcraft filter has like a 99% filtration rate and exceeds the required airflow. Your best bet is to just make sure you change it at appropriate times (don’t let it get massively dirty).

Exclamation

Drewter52 ... What do you guys think about just getting a K&N or other brand paper filter versus the recommended Ford brand?
  • increases the likelihood of oil contaminating the MAF sensor. *Over time even minute oil contamination decreases power and MPG. When it's REALLY EXCESSIVE it will be intuitively obvious.
    .
  • any increase in CFM comes at the expense of filtration.
    .
  • cleaning is a PITA. *And, Yes, I've done it on MAS equipped vehicles.
    .
  • Motorcraft, OEM air filters ...
    • meets|exceeds engine air intake CFM requirements.
    • good for 30,000+ miles (depending upon conditions).
    • ABSOLUTELY NO possibility of MAF sensor oil contamination.
    • dispose and replace maintenance.
.

If you like it buy it. I am a big fan of stock parts when it comes to intakes and exhausts though.

If you want to change the filter to one with a little more airflow I'd stay away from the oiled ones.
