Oil change every 5,000 miles???
#11
Bye F150, hello F250
Interesting find...
In the booklet that the stealership gave me, it shows Oil Changes every 5000 kms!
In the 2009 Ford Model year Car and Truck (excluding F650 750 and LCF), it shows oil changes (with 5W20) every 6 months or 12,000 kms for normal operating vehicles, or, 6 months, 8,000 kms for "Special" operating vehicles. The oil percentage monitor is based on 12,000 kms.
Methinks the dealer's book is a generic booklet for all vehicles, and/or a marketing scheme to get you into thier dealership more often than necessary.
I think I will go with a 10,000 km schedule, 5W30, either Castrol or Quaker State, as usual.

My '06 F150 manual states oil change every 5months/5K miles. Or if you run E85 50% or more of the time, every 3months/3K miles.
Personally, and some may say I'm wasting my money, but I still always change at 3K miles. Now sometimes that is over 4-5 months, but I always change at 3K miles. Will be having the dealership do the works pkg on Monday (9/14) when the truck is in for warranty work (alarm & message center backlight). Always get the Motorcraft 5W20 semi-synthetic.

Fwiw:
I follow the 3K/6mo recommendation....usually the 6mo since I put very little mileage on our vehicles. I use Supertech 10W30 full synthetic and Motorcraft filters along with 8oz of STP.
If I were running mostly highway miles, I'd run out to 5K on a standard API SM oil, longer if I were using a fleet service oil such as Shell Rotella T full synthetic.
(BTW: All gasoline around this neck of the woods is diluted with 10% ethanol....it is reflected by a 5% reduction in fuel economy in my Lincoln TC.)
