Octane level and the ecoboost engines

I reset the mileage readout on the dash of my 2012 Wrangler at the top of Vail pass. Shifted the manual trans into 4th and rode it down the other side. I got the readout to show 945 MPG before it rolled over and reset itself.

Its a direct injection motor. No need to run higher than 87 on an OEM 3.5 Eco. I've had mine for 1.5 years, have experimented with 93 (ZERO change in MPG or performance, only a HUGE hit to the wallet), and even ethanol free variants, which we have available locally. When I do a tune, and want to switch to the 93 octane specific performance program, yeah, then I'll fill up w 37 gallons of premium.

I'm wondering with the GenII Ego and 93 is where I "might" see a difference? Not sure with port and direct it would do anything different.

I only run 93 in my EB 3.5 but I also run it in ALL of my engines right down to the weed whacker ( pre-mix)!
Its only +/- $3.15 a gallon here in TN. When we moved here from CA., premium was around $4.75-$5.00 a gallon (in CA) so it's not such a big deal for me to spend the extra. Things just seem to run better on 93.
The EB is a performance engine and, IMO, should burn the best fuel available. I also wouldn't pop the top on a white can with yellow lettering that says "BEER"!

The egoboost engines are lower compression ratio than most of Ford's N.A. engines sooo ... ? IDK ...
