Default How to Preform a recovery?

Could some one write me a tutorial or point me to one where it tells me how to use my 4x4 F150 to help a small car or other vehicle stuck in snow, ice, sand or mud. Also i would like to know the safest method because ive heard chains and ropes with metal hooks on the end are dangerous when they break. Im not expecting to pull out anyone stuck good but just help out some people when it snows. Also what products would you recommend.
Thanks
-Alex

Hook up to the factory tow point of the vehicle you are recovering and your truck. Then slowly pull away.....don't gun it.....unless you get it on camera.

Here is a good site for tow strap info:

A few things to consider when pulling out cars. They do not have recovery points like tow hooks. They cannot tolerate the sudden jerk of a ****** strap. If you hook up to a suspension part you risk bending it or even pulling it right off. The plastic bumpers hang low and usually rub against your tow strap and again you risk damaging them.

I guess it all depends on the Make/model of the car. I know my wifes car has both a front and rear tow point, located under a removable plastic cover on the bumpers.

What size, length, breaking strength would you recommend.

It all depends on the weight of the vehicle you are going to tow/recover. The rope should be rated at 2X the gross vehicle weight at a minimum.
