The sensors are disabled if you have the trailer towing package and a trailer is connected. Also, you can disable the system through the information display menu or from the pop-up message that appears when the system is shifted to "reverse" per the owner's manual.

Search for "Parking Aid" in your manual

I agree. I haven't towed anything with it yet but will be doing quite a bit as the weather gets better. Not being able to turn it off when towing is going to be extremely annoying. Does everyone else get the option to turn it off when they go in reverse?

Do the newer trucks disable for any trailer connected? My '12 only disables the sensors if it senses a trailer with brakes. Just curious.

I do in my '12. I can also go through the menu on the cluster and disable. It's called rear park aid. Either way it's disabled, it only lasts until the truck is turned off. It will always be enabled again when the truck is started.

It sounds to me like that option just isn't programmed into IPC (gauge cluster). Did you buy the truck new or used? how many miles? If it's still under warranty, might can take it to the dealer and have them take a look and program it. Or do it yourself with Forscan. As mentioned, you can also permanently disable it with Forscan also.

There should be, but my mom had an Expedition with no way to turn them off. It really sucked backing up a trailer. I think it was an '04 and she got it used. Knowing what I do know, I think something had been switched out, or reprogrammed at some point and that options was deleted or wasn't programmed in the cluster.

I bought the truck used with 5,000 miles on it. It is an XTR from Canada so I am wondering if they disable this option for Canadian vehicles? I would be curious to know if other people with an XTR have the option to disable it when they go into reverse. If this is the case I assume it can be turned back on via Forscan, although I have never used it. I would prefer to not permanently disable it, but rather find a way to allow the option to turn it off through the cluster when in reverse. I haven't hooked a trailer up to the truck yet but I will be curious to see if that disables it, otherwise I will lose my patience real quick. Both my camper and utility trailer are buried in snow right now so I don't have easy access to a trailer to test that.

Also, I tracked down where the beep comes from under the dash and there is a High/Low/Off switch so I think I can "permanently" switch it off this way if I really need to, but again, this is not my ideal solution.

I believe I have the trailer towing package. I have the tow/haul button and the trailer backup assist. Does that mean I have the towing package?

I cannot disable the system through the information display at all. I have gone through all the settings and there is nothing. I also don't get the pop-up message which is what is bothering me the most. I had this on my Explorer and I loved it, especially when towing.

Reach out to our resident forscan expert (Livinitup)? Surely there is a way to add it to the menu. I don’t remember reading a way to do it in the forscan thread, but that’s probably just because I may not have been requested. Mine is under the base settings menu. Good luck!

Thought I would jump in as I have a Canadian F150.

It is possible to disable the beeping permanently with ForScan. As per Livinitup, these are the modifications you need to do:

This should disable it permanently:
IPC 720-02-02 1xxx xxxx - Rear Park Aid Control disabled
PAM 736-03-01 x7xx xxxx xx - Rear Park Aid disabled

I have done both modifications and one removes the beeping sound, and the 2nd modification removes it from the menu. Keep in mind this removes the small truck display in the top right corner that shows how close you are to a wall, but the backup aid with the black dotted line remains (when backing up to a trailer) This has worked for me, the beeping was really annoying every time I would backup with a hitch on, tailgate down, or backing up in the garage. Very annoying. Hope this helps! Check out Livinitup's post on the Forscan Thread tutorial, it is really easy to do.

Thanks for the info. Based on your description I am wondering if my "Rear Park Aid Control" is disabled which is why I don't see anything in the menu for it. Maybe I just need to enable this? Before you disabled yours, did you get the popup to turn off the beep every time you put it in reverse?

Yes it was there before I made the modification and I believe it is still there after the 2 mods. I believe it simply removes it from the menu when you go in the settings. The checkbox isnt there anymore, but the popup remains. Not sure what trim you have but keep in mind if you backup close to the garage (depending how fast and what angle youre at) you still get a beeping noise, which is the Cross Traffic Alert and not the parking aid (if you have a lariat)

I have an XLT and I don't have the cross traffic alert. If you are still seeing that popup after disabling it then it probably isn't my exact issue because I never see that.

The other thing I have wondered, is if the reverse sensors on my truck are aftermarket. I bought the truck with only 5,000 miles on it but that doesn't mean the previous owner didn't add them. However, I know the sensors are Ford OEM because I found the speaker and control box under the dash.

Maybe I just need to get a Forscan cable and start playing around with those settings you mentioned.
