I just purchased a grab handle at the wrecking yard for $5. It was attached with 2 sheet metal screws from the factory. I flipped it over and drilled 2 pilot holes on the drivers side and screwed it into place. I'm a 245 lb man with arthritis and the steering wheel on my 2000 F-150 was not working as a lift device. This retrofit works.
Worth a try.

Okay, reading this thread made me pay attention to getting into my truck. My 2010 Lariat didn't have a grab handle and neither does my 2013 Platinum. So here is my play by play. Unlock truck, open driver door, running board deploys. Then my left hand grabs driver arm rest, left foot on running board, stepping up, swivel bottom into seat. I never reached for the steering wheel. Just my observation.

Both of my trucks have running boards, so my viewpoint was from using them. As some posters have pointed out that maybe Ford deleted the grab handle to make buying running boards more likely. My Platinum has the deploying running boards that get further down and kind of in the way to not use them.

As far as I'm concerned, power running boards like on the platinum should be standard equipment on every Ford truck. They are that good IMO.
For anybody here who hasn't tried them out and has $1,000 to spend, go to your ford dealer and get in and out of the platinum a few times. It might just make you forget all about that grab handle that you're missing. It did for me And as a side benefit, I expect my drivers seat to last much longer.
