I too have wondered why there is no handle on the driver side.
A steering wheel is not a handle.

I was thinking the same thing. They have one on the passengers side but not the drivers,. Seems to be backwards thinking. my wife is a 5 foot tall and I think I may have to get her stepstool. I am only 5,9 so not too tall myself. I should not use the steering wheel to pull on but what else are we to do? Any one installed their own grab bars?

Isn't the purpose of the grab handle to give the passenger something to hold on to while driving and not for getting in? Thus makes sense not to have one on the driver side in this context.

Yea we call them "oh *****" handles around here, useful for when the driver pulls a fancy maneuver, lol!
