Question Problems with ignition coils

I have a 1999 Ford F-150, 4.6L engine, and I am having trouble. It was running really well then when I started it one day it started missing pretty bad. I took it in to a local garage and they said to change the wires and plugs. I did this and it ran good for maybe a month or two then did the same thing. I was then told it needed the ignition coils replaced. I got a set of used ones to replace and did this. I started the truck and the service engine light went out and it seemed to run a bit better, I have a leak in the exhaust so there is a bit of noise from that, but the truck seemed to run smoother. My problem is the was a wire on the drivers side that had broken off. It was still attached to the old coil but nothing else. Is that a ground wire or something else. The garage gave me another wire to crimp onto this broken wire which is did. Now the truck acts like it wants to start but will not catch. It just keeps trying to turn over. What could the problem be now? Was this the wrong wire to add? I even unhooked this wire and it will not turn over.Any ideas?

Not sure how much this would help but you could try this.... Lol
It's the ignition coil out of a ~1910 Ford model T. Found it at an antique store in Oregon.

Not funny. I am looking for honest help. Unlike others, I need to fix this truck, I can't go out and get another. I can see this is a waste of time asking for help.

Sorry man, just trying to cheer you up a little. Don't have the tech knowledge so I thought I could offer at least that. Car problems suck... Especially when your livelihood depends on your vehicle. I know that all too well.
Try the regional forums, maybe someone close could help, probably easier if they can see it first hand. I hope you can get it fixed, good luck!
