Default New Truck

I just bought a 2000 F 150 xlt with the 4.6 triton, it has the extended cab 166 000 miles. Any things to look for on this specific model or common issues? Any products I should run through it? (Oil, additives, gas) Pretty much would like ground rules to owning a F 150. Thanks in advance.

I own the same truck with a 4.6 V6 @153K miles. I would suggest doing a few simple maintenance things depending on how much you'll drive it.
1. Engine oil & filter. use high mileage oil but NOT synthetic.
2. Transmission service oil & filter
3. Rear end gear oil -don't forget the LSD additive.
4. Main Fuel filter under drivers side door in chassis
5 Radiator flush- every 2 years after initial flush
This is all basic stuff but if you do it all you'll have a starting point for your future servicing. Good luck

Is changing the diff oil simple enough to do at home? If so what do I need tool wise and what kinds of oil for the rear and front diff?

Unfortunately I can't tell you much about the job itself. This past summer I had the front/rear diff fluid changed, fuel filter changed, along with an oil change,, trucks was at like 119k miles, and I forget how much that came to but I didn't do it myself. I've read about a good amount of people doing it themselves at home so if you're mechanically inclined it shouldn't be bad. For the oil I believe you'll want the gear oil and friction modifier but other than that I'll let someone whos done it chime in.
