Recent dealer antics seem fishy
I've been into my local dealer a few times in the past month. They keep getting '13s in and trying to sell them to me at a discounted price. They are selling them as new. One had 800 miles the other had 300. The last three have had less than 100 miles. Is it weird that this dealership has so many of 13's still?

they're still considered NEW if they're never titled. it could easily be the let the customer go with the truck but never signed. I bought mine brand new w/ a little over 700 miles. it was on the lot for over a year. I got a huge discount/rebate. it was actually at a dealership in another city and moved down here. they buy and sell from other dealers all the time to meet the customers needs.

My 2013 XLT was an oddball truck and I bought it in the beginning of this July. It had been landed for 433 days total when I signed it's paperwork. It showed just over 200 miles on the odometer at the time. The original dealer that it was sent to verified by the window sticker was about 200 miles from the dealer I bought it from. So there you go.... the miles were accumulated when they transferred the truck. The Sirius radio had been activated and had expired on it as they had sold the truck at least once verified by a sheet of paper in the cab... well before the guy backed out of the deal. Never registered though so the truck was still brand new.

surely if they're listing a 2013 model as "new", the rebates and/or selling price of the truck should be fantastic. what trim model are you looking at? have you checked their website to see what the "internet" price is?

Two of them just came in and so they aren't up on the site yet. They are both Lariats with the 502A package. It's hard because I can't really comparison shop against other "new" 2013's. I guess I'll just go in a low ball them 2-3k below what they wanted to sell me a comparable 2014 model.

"NEW" simply means it has not yet been titled to someone else. Dealers use vehicles on their lots all the time for sales/service managers to drive, and they can rack up a few hundred miles if not more w/out the truck being considered "used". When I bought my '08 FX4, the sales manager had been using it for about 600 miles worth of driving, but the truck was still pristine. I was able to use that to bargain down the price just a tad, but not much.
Long story short, I don't find what you explained to be "antics" by your dealer. He's likely got '13 models that have been used by his staff but are still "new" and he's looking to unload them now. I would just try to make a great deal with him on them considering their age and mileage, and knowing he needs to get them off the lot before the '15's come out.

Yeah, maybe "antics" was a strong word. I just feel like every time I go into a dealership there is something weird going on. I wish dealerships operated like any other retail business.
The price they wanted for a '14 502A Lariat was 41,700. I could probably have talked them down some but didn't get the chance because they started pushing the '13. I'd hope to get them down to like 39,700 or something on the '13. Is that wishful thinking?
