New to the F150 and trying to figure out a problem

522= Could be tranmission position sensor, should be on the bell cover of the tranmission if I am not mistaken.
It wouldn't be the 02 sensor if the truck is running that badly. 02 sensor really only a small variable of the fuel/air mixture, wouldn't cause it to shut down. Especially if it runs fine when the CEL is off. Also, try running HEET(yellow bottle from Advanced/Oreilys/AZ)through the fuel system. It is an alcohol that cleans the fuel palets, injectors, filter and inside of fuel rail. The best way to clean the fuel injector palets is the put a drip line of diesel into the throttle body.

If you're gonna do like an injector cleaner, pick up a bottle of SeaFoam, run a third of the pint straight through the main vacuum line with the warm engine running, dump a third into the gas tank, then the last third into the crankcase. Shut the truck off, give 5-6 minutes, start it back up, and that'll clean 'er out pretty good. Does a damn good job on my '92.

egr valve and bad plugs
Okay, so a little update for those interested. The Egr valve was all fouled up. Worked that out and that helped. BUT, the plugs were beyond belief. Completely fouled with charred oil deposits. I was able to get all but one of the plugs out and replaced and the truck runs much better. I could not get the plug in the number 5 hole out and I wasn't prepared to break it. (YET) so there is still a stutter but it is a consistent stutter that smooths out at speed.
So, Now I'm wondering what to do next. I'm sure theres a few scenarios for oil fouling the plugs so my first thought is start with the head. Look at valve seals etc. and hope thats all it is. But I also need to replace the oil pan on this truck and possibly the rear main seal so I'm trying to sort out if a motor swap doesn't make more sense. 164K on this one.
I will hear opinions on this.
thanks!!

164k is nothing to a 4.9L. It will handle the mileage. I'd still have a spray of starting fluid and mist the vacuum lines for any cracks or holes. Sea foaming will help.
The sensor on the transmission was not designed very well so when you buy a new one, it "should" come with an updated pigtail that you will have to splice onto the old one. This Sensor/switch is responsible for telling the computer what gear you should be in. Over time they wear out and the computer will not know if it should be in D or 2, or even if it's in park to start the truck.
Good luck with project.

Sounds like good advice. I'll work at getting that last plug changed and do the seafoam thing and see where it leaves me. Maint. was obviously not kept up on this thing.
