New to the F150 and trying to figure out a problem
Hi,
I recently picked up a 92 F150 (4.9 6 cylinder) I bought it because the truck is basically rust free (big deal up here in Maine) and it was $700.
I took a bit of a chance on it as it is running rough. The check engine light is on intermittently. It has a big stutter as you accelerate but but smooths out in places. What I've noticed over the last couple days is that sometimes the Check engine light will go off and when it does the truck runs fine. Today it started but wouldn't stay running.
I'm thinking I have a bad sensor or something in the electronic or injector system. Truck has 164K miles on it.
Anybody run into this before?

Could start by checking the cap and rotor for corrosion... as well as misting some water over the plug wires in a dark area to see if they're arcing... May also be in need of a fuel filter.. depends on when all this was last changed

Researched how to pull the codes will try that tomorrow. A buddy who is a big Ford guy suggested it sounded like O2 sensor but we'll see.
Rotor and cap and plugs and wires are all new. at least that is what I was told and they look new. Seems like the last guy tried to figure it out as well. I did replace the entire battery harness as that had been hacked up and was all corroded.
Thanks for the input!
Gonna need more later. I have to change the oil pan and replace the front Body/radiator mounts as well. Hopefully all this will get this sorted and I'll get some good miles out of this one.

I would double check the previous work. Replaced doesn't mean installed properly. I've seen this too many times. I work at a dealer, and the do-it-yourselfer does things with good intentions but not always with the best quality. There are many that are qualified, but I would recheck everything before spending more money. Suck, squeeze, bang, blow. Check every step.
