New F150 Owner and Newbie to this site shocked to find (RUST)
Hello my fellow F150 friends. I apologize in advance since I am sure this topic has been covered on prior post.
I am however a little upset today. I recently purchased a brand new 2013 Ford F150 XLT with Eco. I have owned this truck for about a week and a half.
I was cleaning my wheels today when I noticed that the rear differential and joint is starting to rust. I understand if my truck was 5 years old and with close to 100K miles that this maybe normal sight; however my truck has a total of 195 miles. Yes, your heard correctly a total of 195 miles. I don't even know how to use Ford Sync yet, lol.
I didn't know where else to turn too for venting. I contacted Ford Motors today to submit a complaint regarding the rust issue and I also contacted the dealer I purchased the truck from. The dealer took pictures which they stated would be submitted to Ford.
I have attached a couple of pictures I took myself for you to see. I have to say I am a little bit upset and can't believe that I am actually seeing this on a brand new truck. My neighbor drives a 2012 F-150 with not one sight of rust. In addition, my other neighbor drives an F250 which is even older with not one once of rust.
I am the youngest of 4 boys and my older brothers are Pro Ford all the way! I have always been the odd ball buying GM trucks instead and this is my first Ford truck. When they saw the pictures they about had a coronary! They couldn't believe what they were seeing knowing very well I just purchased this truck less than two weeks ago.
Has anyone gone through anything like this in the beginning of their purchase and if so will Ford back up their product? I would hate this to be escalated and have to get an attorney, but it makes me feel awful that I paid so much for a brand new truck that looks old from the bottom. Thanks for listening!

I know I can do all this work to keep it from rusting, but shouldn't Ford do this since I just literally bought the truck? I have no problem working on my own vehicles and if this truck was used and 3 years old no problem. I just can't believe that Ford wouldn't try to rectify this issue. I hope to hear some news tomorrow.

Thanks Rnlcomp. I guess being from Southern CA spoils you, but I still don't see this issue with many of the Ford I have seen here in the Boston area that are 2 years old. Seems like mine just didn't get the extra TLC at the Ford factory.

Having worked in an assembly plant all through college, I can tell you, if the driveshaft yoke needed to be painted it would have been. Some parts were lightly coated with oil and if they were on the bottom of the assembly line bin, they got more coating and lasted long before they rusted. Some never got out of the plant before the rust started. My 45 year old F250 driveshaft looks just like your's. Ford is smart enough to know where to save money w/o compromising quality. If it bothers you, paint it with Rustoleum black. It will kill the rust and seal it.

I wouldn't be concerned about the driveshaft, but the muffler bracket rusting that much brand new I'd be concerned about!
Personally I had my truck ziebarted when new so it's all black under there
