Default New to the F150

Hey guys I'm new here as well as new to the Ford/F150 lineup. I've owned GM products (mostly Silverados) my entire life, but I'm at a place now where the GMs don't appeal to me anymore and the Fords do. So I'm looking at purchasing a 2017-2019 F150 STX with the 5.0 V8 sometime between the end of this year and the beginning of next. I really like the balance of options when going with the STX trim so that's what I've decided on. I was just wondering if the STX comes with a built in trailer brake controller. If not is it an option? Can it also be had with a locking rear differential?

Since you mention it...if you are set on the 5.0 I'd make it a 2017, they started running into issues with the 2018 Model Year that may or may not have been sorted for 2019.

Yes it can be had with an electronic locking differential.

Good to know! I was pretty set on the 2017 mainly because I like the front end better, but I was going to consider a newer one as well. Maybe not now.

I have a 14 with the 5.0. It's a great engine and I have no regrets about buying it. But if I were buying one today I'd seriously look at the 2.7 for a couple of reasons. The 2.7 wasn't an option when I bought my truck. For whatever reason I read of more issues with the 5.0 in newer trucks than older ones. And the 2.7, if properly equipped, will tow about the same as my older truck with the 5.0 and will out run it. The 2.7 will cost you less initially and will beat both the 5.0 and 3.5 in fuel mileage. When I bought my truck I had some concerns about the long term durability of the turbo engines. But at this point I've seen enough to trust them.

The locking diff is manual, not automatic nor is it a limited slip. You pull the **** on the dash and it locks the diff. Off road or slick low traction use only recommended. If it's not engaged, it's an open diff and traction control tries to handle spin.

Read the oil consumption TSB thread on here before making up your mind about the 5.0
