So you just transport this race car? You don't drive it or work on it? Seems odd you asking these type questions if you do. If all you do is transport, why not talk to your car's owner/driver/builder? They could probably steer you in the right direction.

I built it and drive it. I have never touched a truck though.

If you built the one in your race car you can surely build the one in the truck. It's still an internal combustion engine.

I know. I’m don’t know the supercharger side. And also wanting something more simple and reliable. Anyone with a race car knows a race car isn’t reliable.

Simple and reliable? Not possible with today's engines. You can have reliable but it's nothing close to simple. If you want simple you're gonna drop back a couple decades and out the window goes reliable. Vicious cycle.

Very true. However my race car is so custom it took 6 hrs just to unbolt the trans to replace the throw out bearing.

I guess when when I said simple, I meant more like off the shelf, or from another model. I had planned to rebuild whatever engine I get with oem parts, but wanted something better for towing. As I said, I’m not sure if the engine is just old and tired or what but it does hold up to towing very well.

I do like the SC idea, but didn’t want to have to rewire half the car.

If the engine is really tired I wouldn't tune it until rebuilt or replaced but SCT is the Tuner (Hardware) of Choice these days. It just flashes through the OBD port. I would check in the section of Forum fir your particular year of truck to see which Tuner (Person) they like for that particular engine, trans for towing applications. Justin at VMP wrote the tunes for my Supercharged Mustang and I've been really happy with both engine and trans performance but different tuners tend to spend more time on development for certain applications. The electronic throttle bodies on these newer engines have a slow rate of opening for smoothness and mpg but it makes them feel really lazy when in fact the 5.4 3V has 100 bhp on the old 351W 4V HO.

Supercharging kits for the 5.4 are plug and play, so there would be minimal rewiring.

My buddy had an 06 supercharged 5.4. He Had a shop install it and tuned by Jody at DP tuner. It made 360ish at the wheels. Plug and play is a bit of a reach we thought the same thing until the kit arrived and realized it was not gonna be done in the drive way. Plus tuning is very important. Now the kits do have their own tuning for their setups but it is still something you would want custom tuned especially if you are towing.

Honestly by the time you factor in new engine, supercharger, labor if you don't do it, you might just be better off in a newer truck.
