Default New 2018 with paint issue.

Hey guys, I'm brand new to this forum. I've been a GM guy my whole life until today, when my brand new 2018 F-150 got delivered to my house. Truck looked great, but it was a little snowy and the truck had some slush on it so I didn't get to give it a full looksie. Signed my paperwork and off my sales rep went. Later in the day with the slush melted off, I found this very noticeable paint flaw on the bed below my passenger tail light. It's clearly a factory flaw, almost like something brushed up against it when it was curing. It looks like it's not too far away from bare metal. It literally has not left my driveway since I got it and I don't even have the license plate yet.

So my question is do I make them take the truck back and find me a new one or do I let them re-paint it? I find this completely unacceptable and do not want a brand new truck that needs to be re-painted. Dealer paint jobs aren't the same quality as factory. Do I have a leg to stand on for making them take it back?

Thanks!

Either way I’d want it fixed. I’m not sure there is a good place to break off a blend back there without repainting the entire bed side.

Holy crap... This is a major body defect. How did they NOT see this when it got delivered to their dealership...? The employee that washed it before delivering it to you saw it and didn't say anything. That, or he's blind...

I'd be furious. Clean the whole truck thoroughly and see if there are any other ones... Then call you sales rep.

I must tell you in advance, you probably won't like the way they'll handle your issue.

You’ve delt with the same dealer he bought his truck from?

It's possible the dealership damaged it and rushed to fix it. I highly doubt it would get past the factory inspection with that large of a flaw.

That's the only flaw I can see. Aside from an uneven pinstripe job.... not very thrilled with my start into this.

They are not going to swap the truck, thats an easy paint repair for the right painter, I would venture to say almost any painter. Try PM"ing mbullock and ask him his opinion.

I'm not saying it's a hard repair , but I am saying it's a little absurd to buy a 50k truck that needs body work (however big or small) before it even hits the road. That's not something I find acceptable at least. But, I will take your advice and ask. Thanks.

Over the years, I've found it amusing how people get worked up over things like this. That's a 5 minute fix. Why tick off your dealer over something minor? Save your battles for when the big stuff comes later.

Ford sells nearly a million trucks a year. You can find flaws on probably every one that rolls off the line if you spend time looking. These aren't Ferraris. They're pickup trucks.

It sucks that you have to deal with this. But that is exactly why I always give the vehicle a full walk around inspection before I sign on the dotted line.
