It's nicknamed the "lie-o-meter" for that exact reason. It tells you you're getting 18 MPG, when in reality you're getting 16 MPG. It's completely normal and you do not have a lemon. I've never had a vehicle, with this feature, that was ever close to being correct. They all were 1-2 MPG off. I wouldn't worry about what the computer says, and just hand calculate that trip after you fill up.

Is the speedometer 100% accurate? Or the voltmeter?
Are they close enough to be useful?

Mine is a 14 with the same engine. My observations. If I fill up the truck and stop putting gas in when it shuts off my computer calculations are always within .3 mpg and the fuel used is within about the same range. If the pump shuts off and I squeeze in an extra 1/2 gallon or so the calculations are off significantly on that fill up. If I continue to do so it gets worse with the next fill up.
Even after I go back to stopping when the pump shuts off it may take a tank or 2 for things to get back to normal.
With a 36 Gal tank I no longer worry about getting in that last 1/2 gallon.
Just a SWAG, but when topping off after the pump shuts down I think the computer doesn't really know how much gas is in the tank.
But I could be totally wrong.

I gotta be honest with you Justor, I read your first two posts and scratched my head on post three when you cleared up what you where asking. Usually when someone posts about poor mileage, someone else will comment they get better than epa estimates. Everyone seems to agree about the accuracy of the mpg calculator.

I remember watching an episode of Top Gear, and he went like 45-50 miles on "0 miles to empty" on a BMW. Same on the BBC Top Gear, he went like 50 miles on empty in a Jaguar. I think it's more of a gimmick, just gives you a rough idea of how much gas you have left.

I'm too scared to try that myself haha. My gas light comes on between 45-50 miles to empty. If I haven't already filled up by then, my next stop is a gas station.
