My ecoboost = kaboom SSI tune

First off my order was overlooked and I didn't get the tuner till like 3 weeks later. Then it took numerous emails to remind them to send my tunes and I finally got them a week later. I understand everyone gets busy but damn.
Got tunes loaded one and it was quick. Went to work and load another one backed out of garage and had no throttle. No tunes worked at this point. Called and the guy said it was sct fault and to call them. So I did and they said it was the tunes.
Well another week went by after numerous emails and filling out a ticket. Finally got the tunes and ran good for two days.
Got onto highway next day and truck just shut off and went into limp mode, called the tuner and left a voicemail and they never called back. Decided maybe it was just a glitch and loaded the tune back in after putting it back to stock and it was surging so bad I just put it back to stock.
So after a month I still didn't have a working tune. Bought a tune from 5star and received it the same day and it's been in there for 3-4 months now.

1. The info is coming from the tuner, who knows best. Why is it a bad thing to get it from his forum? He's the most knowledgeable and experienced in the industry.
2. Again, we are talking about the incorrect logging not the tune. You need the correct config for your vehicle/strategy.

Best thing to happen to this thread.
Oh wait... he's back.
I find it interesting that the fellow that was helping and giving updates letting us know the dealer was getting him a new motor stopped the updates... hhmmmm. Yes it would be nice for the OP to finish the story. Anyone else, not so much.

Looks like the OP is gone.
All I know is that when I've seen SSI on the Web it's been accompanied by a photo of a burned down F-150, and also that Ford dealerships were sent a notice to be on the watch for tuned or modified EcoBoost vehicles.
So, unless he cleared his tune with ForScan before he went to the dealer, he was probably screwed and handed a 5-figure repair bill.

Only way for Ford dealers to know if you tuned your vehicle is to hook up and check the key cycle count. The count is wiped when you flash the ECM. They reference if you ever had a Ford ECM flash/update and guess how many key cycle you should have based on vehicle age and mileage.
It's certainly some effort, but you could cycle your key a few HUNDRED times and they can't tell when the key was cycled or prove that you loaded up a tune. That's not to say that they see other things that are suspicious (also outlined in the Ford instructional document) and send in the ECM for inspection. Ford Corp. can dig deeper and can see if you modified the ECM from stock parameters.
If anyone wants to see the Ford GSB that outlines how to look for "modifications", I have it. just shoot me a PM and I can get it to you.
Looking forward to the OP closing this case.

I agree with you on this one. The biggest mistake I think the original poster made was going with SSI for his tune. I think SSI gets a little too carried away with making power and then boom! I'm running a tune on my 5.0 and I'm not worried about it. But it's not crazy aggressive though either. It just cleaned up Ford's Terrible shifting strategy and that terrible throttle lag. But it is a night and day difference.

FYI, there is no "clearing the tune with ForScan". You set the vehicle to stock with the tuner and cross your fingers.

Agree on the sending the pcm in to Ford, they have the resources to analyze it in ways NO dealer can.
With that said, you take a chance one way or the other unless you have IDS. IDS WILL wipe a pcm clean to the point even Ford can't detect and if there ever was a chance, one could just go buy a new pcm and load it up with asbuilt data. No traces of anything EVER. Yep, I have IDS and am Ford factory trained how to use it.
