Default What do you guys use to protect your wheels/tires

I am the new owner of a black 2016 F-150 Platinium with 701A package. It has a pretty decent set of wheels on them. What do you guys use to protect them? I purchased the OEM 2-stage shock/impact sensor that works with the included alarm/remote start. I am thinking about getting some locking lug nuts but not sure if they really do much of anything from what I have read. The darn thing is two feet too long to fit in the garage so it is out in the driveway all night long. I have bright dusk till dawn led light shining on it all night and have a camera pointing out at it as well. Is there anything else that you guys might recommend that I do that would help? What about a certain set of locking lug nuts that might be worth it. I am fairly new to the tuck life and am not too car/truck savy just yet. Still learning. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ian

I just use a set of Ford OEM wheel locks. Brandy new, and got them free. If someone wants those wheels bad enough, they're gonna get them.

Dang you have a tiny garage.

I suspect you'll be fine with the truck close to the house, well lit, and covered by a camera or two. Ideally a very obvious maybe even signed camera, and one not obvious with a different angle, 24/7 recording, A/C powered. Nest, Ring, Arlo, whatever.

And not to tell you what to do too much, but if the area you live in is really that bad that stolen wheel is a serious concern, I'd save money to move rather than buying a Platinum

@johnday That is probably what I was thinking as well. If anyone wants them bad enough they will get them.

@blkZ28spt I do have a tiny garage. It's a 35-year-old house and they just didn't build garages all that deep back then, or at least in my neighborhood. I plan on putting two cameras up (one from each front side of the house). They are the Ubiquiti Flex cameras and I have 24/7 recording and are backed up. The area I live in is pretty nice but things can happen anywhere. One last thing, I was driving an old 98 4Runner with 195,000 miles and it just wasn't reliable any longer. I knew I wanted an F150 and found the above Platnium for the price of the base Lariat I was looking for (same year). I was just able to get a fantastic deal on the truck (almost $10,000 retail). Thanks for your thoughts.

Here is a random thought...not one I've seen or heard before though I'm sure it's out there...what else do you keep in your garage? Do you have an exterior door with good deadbolt (or ability to make it so) from garage to house? Just wondering what else is in the garage that has to be there, and how much less likely somebody would be to break into the truck or try to steal the wheels if the truck is in the garage, even with the door open and the tailgate sticking out (lol), garage lights on, exterior of garage lit up, and cameras getting a real good shot from inside and outside the garage...plus the degree of weather protection vs being out in the open, UV alone is harsh...could be good if you get hail? I mean just kinda pretend it's a carport or whatever you call them and not a garage.

I suppose it comes down to what else you want protected in the garage, if you have a shed also, etc

I have live view and recording cameras on my property as well as a Ford alarm installed on my truck to where motion or movement will set it off. Be sure your tailgate is locked and protected too as those seem to be a popular theft item.

Lightbulb

If they want 'em, they'll take 'em(period)

The best deterent is parking it in a locked, secured garage or other structure. But even then .... There's no guarantee, so have comprehensive coverage included on your auto insurance.

If you don't mind me asking but how much did you pay for your truck?

The wheels on my 06 F-150 suck. That protects them pretty good because nobody would want these crappy OEM wheels. But I've had nice wheels before on vehicles and I protect them by simply being wise about where I park my vehicle and how long I leave it there.

A cousin of mine parked his truck downtown while he went into a bar/night club. Because of his inebriation he couldn't drive it, and instead got a taxi home. Well, his truck wasn't there in the morning when he went back to retrieve it. I'll bet he makes better decisions in the future.

In my opinion, there's only so much you can do to protect the things you own, as others have said. Installing sucky wheels helps tremendously though! :-)
