To me it seems fishy that they mounted your tires and from Thursday to Saturday your rims cracked? You didn’t have problems before they installed the new tires right ? If they didn’t clean the corrosion/ salt build up of the bead of the rim the tires will not seat and hold air, I would get a second opinion or get some dish soap and check the rims myself..

I've got powdercoated black wheels on my Ranger for the last 4 winters, no problem at all, in northern lower Michigan. I've also had very good results with OEM clearcoated machined/black Raptor wheels. I think OEM had a better clearcoat than some some polished clearcoated American [made in china] Racing wheels I had. Those pieces of garbage were pitting within weeks of putting them on. Ran them through one winter and dipped them that spring. Really made me doubt any aftermarket clearcoat.
Paint, as mentioned earlier.

The tire was leaking which is why I took it to the shop in the first place. I didn't ever consider the rim being a problem. The tires were old and I had planned on replacing them next month anyway. Our pothole problem has actually made news headlines several times this year. I got a quote to repair and paint my wheels but the tire shop offered me a deal on some new wheels for less. I wouldn't mind painted or powdered wheels that I could re paint if it started peeling but it looks like the ones I'm getting are chrome. Hopefully the chrome is good quality and will last a while. I'll try and wash my truck more often in the winter.

It looks like I'm going with these.

Nice looking wheel, chrome Raptors! Don't know where you are, but good quality chrome can last. Just keep them cleaned and waxed, sometimes easier said than done. 20"?

Yea, I'm sticking w/ the 20" since I already bought the tires. If I had of known I was buying wheels too I probably would have dropped to 18" to save money. I think 18 looks fine on these trucks. Raptor wheels w/ highway tires seem kind of silly but we have a highway truck. Last year I drove it in Utah and Manhattan in the same month.

It will last 2-3 years, cost a few hundred bucks to do (or less of course if you want to do it yourself), and you can clean them off with a hose and nothing else. I've had my gloss black painted wheels for about 3 years and they have been coated for about 2. They still look new and even when some dust and dirt and whatever else builds up on there, it only takes water and maybe a light brush off to clean them.
I've been reading about these ceramic coatings on the boating forums, they sound impressive. Maybe I need to coat the whole truck. I know it's expensive though. I'll look into that.

Painted or Powder coated should be better than Chrome in your driving conditions. These should stand up better to the salt etc

I can't find any painted ones I like. Do you think mine are worth refinishing? I'd want silver or gunmetal but not black.

I'm still waiting on confirmation from the shop that the raptor wheels are in stock.

For winter wheels, have a set of XL steel wheels powdercoated. I have a set in black. That coating seems like ceramic in hardness and they have not faded for 6 years I've had them.

Will 17" clear the brakes if I get a winter set?
