Money wired for 2011 F150 King Ranch 4x4
Good morning everyone.
I am in the process of purchasing a 2011 KR 157WB. I live in CA and this is an internet purchase for a truck in the midwest. I have reviewed the window purchase sticker and the VIN#/door codes.
Prior to becoming a member I used your site extensively to find out info on the available engines. I have a 5600# 31 foot lite travel trailer, which we only use a few times a year. I have a 72 Ranchero with a 351 4V and a 69 Torino Vert with a 351 Cleveland stroked to 408. I decided I like the sound of a V8 and do not need the towing Torque on a regular basis from the ecoboost. My vehicle search was limited mainly to autotrader and was searching only for the 5-0. Also limited to 4x4's based on my reading of this forum, thanks again.
Since this is an internet purchase I hired a mechanic to go look/drive/inspect the truck. He knows fords very well. He did so and reported back to me. I had concerns because the truck was originally purchased and driven in Quebec and used for commercial purposes, per the CARFAX report. My concerns were rust underneath, as well as everything else.
Truck is now registered in the US and the carfax says a bond was paid for and ok to drive in US. (or something like that)
He told me the truck drove great and looked extremely clean. He had the dealer put the truck on a lift (dealer squawked) He said it looked good underneath. He popped the hood and looked at the engine. He immediately knew the engine was NOT a 5.0 BUT A 6.2!
My heart initially sank as i had been searching for some time now and this seemed to be the truck for me and the inspection was $265. I asked the mechanic how that could be since the VIN said 5.0, it had a flex fuel badge, and there was a 5.0 sticker in the window (or wherever it goes) He said it looked like a factory install. He said the 6.2 was a great motor and the MPG is only a little worse than the 5.0.
Based on that conversation I immediately got back on the forum and did a few hours worth of reading.
I then made a command decision to immediately lock up the truck and buy it, since it was prob under priced with that motor and I really do not care that this is not a matching numbers truck since it is not a classic car.
Does anyone know what could have happened here?
1. 5.0 blew up and was replaced by a 6.2?
2. Last minute engine change at the assembly line?
Regarding warranty, the truck has over 60,000 miles on it.
Thank you for your time and I would appreciate any feedback.

At the least, I would have the dealer send me a copy of the title to see if the numbers match the info given, and if is a legitimate title.
That 6.2 did not just appear out of thin air, I would want to know how it got into that truck. Especially if Carfax does not mention it.
Caveat emptor.

Just take it if your mech didnt find any weird noises or issues I wouldnt worry. It sounds like you got it for a decent price, and you're out of warranty anyway!
