Poor taste is across all branches of the military. Should have seen some of the works of art a couple guys had when I was USN.
Even after mentioning the Marine sticker, I went back, and had to look pretty hard. At first I thought is was some kind of cheap light or something.
For the record, I didn't mean to truly imply that anyone, in any walk of life, inherently has "taste", or even "class". I just thought it was kinda funny - not even sure why though - that amidst all the stuff on that truck (which I truly believe MUST be some kind of joke), that there is a USMC sticker on the front of the truck.
Said it before, and I'll say it again. Fender flares are awful.
For the 4 pictures you posted that are A) pocket flares and B) not PTM, YES, you are 100% correct in that they look beyond awful, like, puke in your mouth awful, regardless of functionality.
Now, for the one picture I left up there, the "normal" PTM flares - WHEN COMBINED WITH WHEELS/TIRES THAT STICK OUT FROM THE STOCK FENDERS, THUS REQUIRING SOME ADDITIONAL COVERAGE OVER THE TIRES - are very nice and perfectly acceptable. When done right, they don't look like some kind of after-thought, which is what I find to be the biggest offender of any poorly done mod.
when anyone does any mod that looks like it's something other than how it would have come from the factory if so designed that way, to me, it just screams "aftermarket" ... and I just never have warmed up to that idea.
I know you all are probably sick of me explaining how I feel about design, aesthetics, etc... but it's more than just an opinion. A well thought out and implemented design, change, mod, etc. should always blend in with everything as a whole to look like that's how it should have been from day 1. Think about that with other mods you look at. Some stand out as "oh yah, definitely added on" ... while others just appear "seamless" to the overall design. I think that if you consider it, you too will find that those "seamless" mods are much more pleasing to the eye, even when you're not necessarily a huge fan of the mod itself.
(final clarification: that's why I hate pocket flares on modern trucks. Nothing else on the truck has all kinds of exposed rivets/bolts. Adding pocket flares - aside from all of us already knowing they are "pretend" rivets - just do not mesh with the rest of the truck.)
^^^^ Correct!! But these flares from a 2013, painted nicely to match, look bad-*** on this 2007 (okay, maybe not bad-***, but they look like they belong). Please ignore all my other tasteless mods, lol

I admit it too ... while almost nothing about Summers' truck is something I would do or that I prefer, the way he did it goes together cohesively across the entire truck. Everything on it looks "in place" and in accord with the overall scheme.
I give him full marks for the mods ... just glad it's his and not mine though LOL.
funny you say that. My truck is basically almost there ... leveled with 34's ... and I love it as-is. However, I feel that after the warranty period expires, I'll put a 4" lift on it, and then put 35's when the 34's wear out.
Honestly, it's not that I want more lift as much as I want a true suspension that is line with factory specs (so to speak).
