Michelin Defender LTX/MS?
#11
I work as a driver for Old Dominion Freight. We haul lots of Michelin tires to dealers.
When my oem Goodyear's wore out at 55k miles I asked 3 different dealers who sold both brands if Michelin was really worth the extra money. All three said they were. Put them on, keep them inflated and rotated and you'll never regret it. They are right. They will dry rot before they wear out. Quiet and smooth.

Read a bunch of tire reviews before buying a set for my 2018 ecoboost in 10 ply. While they work just fine for towing and highway I found them entirely lacking in off road conditions, rain, ice and snow. Swapped the out for Falken Wildpeak AT3’s. The Wildpeaks handle off road details much better.
I will say if your looking for long mileage wear the Michelin’s due to their hard compound really wear well. Won’t buy again.

The Defenders are not very good in mud, because it’s tread is designed for the highway.

I guess I'll have to be the naysayer. I own the Michelin MS2's, which is the Defender before they started calling it the Defender. I have 275/55/20's and have rotated religiously every 5k. Ive never towed, I've never hauled heavy loads, I monitor the PSI regularly to keep them wearing evenly.
I have 37k miles on them and they are already down to 5/32 tread. Very disappointing. Sure theyre quiet and ride nice, but I'd be lucky to get 50k out of them and I don't want to go through another wet winter on them. Our most recent rainstorms had these tires slipping on wet pavement without much effort on my part. They were good on wet roads when they were new, but they wore down so quickly that they just suck now even though I haven't even hit 38k. I'm very let down considering the positive reviews. My next tire will be the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S.

Maybe OP has already made a decision, but I've had the LTX MS's on my truck for almost 30k miles now. They've worn down very little, it looks like these tires are going to last quite a bit longer.
Snow traction is also very good. Rain traction is impressive. The only ice they've been on is compacted snow in my driveway, but I didn't notice any issues and was still able to climb the 5% grade out without using 4x4. On dry pavement they're probably the best tire I've owned (although everything else was an all terrain). I know these aren't all-terrains, but the one time I had them off-road in the mud they clogged up immediately. On dry dirt and grass paths they do fine though, even with some rather steep dirt hills I've gone up.
If I get another highway tire after these, I'll probably get another set of Michelins. I might go back to all-terrains though, by that time this truck will be much older and getting scrapes and dings off-road won't bother me as much. Right now this truck is mostly a pavement queen.

My MS2s must have come from a bad batch or something, because when (if) I hit 50k on these tires they will be toast. By the time I hit 43K I will only have 4/32 left.
Michelin claims what, 60k?

Same story with my MS2s. Not worth the money I spent on them. I will be doing well to hit 50K, and doubt that they will run that far.
