Loud knock on cold start
Hey guys. I'm new here and have a quick question. I have a 2014 xlt 4wd with the 5.0. Around 14000km. I started noticing a loud knock/ thunk noise coming from under the dash on cold starts. Only happens once right when the truck starts and only when starting it after the truck has sat in the cold for hours. Any one had this before? Or know if this is an issue or what the issue could be? On average temperature is around -20 to -30 Celsius when starting in the morning. Any help/info would be great! Thanks

Do you by any chance use a FRAM oil filter?

FORDP/U - Thanks for the reply. Yes. I do actually
The are several vehicle manufacturer's TSBs regarding the use of FRAM oil filters and cold start-up knock (amoung several other things).

Thanks a lot!
I just did a quick google search and seems to be a common problem with those filters. I am due for an oil change and will be swapping out the fram.

As Honey Boo Boo and 1979vette noted ... If it's only a single THUNK! (and not a knocking that goes away after a short while), then it's the blend door repositioning itself based upon the EATC setting. And ... It's -NORMAL-
BTW ... Would still switch brands of oil filters.

Thanks guys. It is just one single thunk so sounds like the blend door. I guess it's a non-issue then. Just Loud sometimes and wanted to make sure it was nothing that could cause a problem. I think I will still switch filters. Sounds like Frams are cheapest/worst way to go.

I wouldn't use a Fram on my riding lawnmower much less my truck. Pure garbage.
