Default Looking at possibly buying my first F150 this coming week, so much to consider

Hey All -

Been a lurker here for a while but I decided to finally make a post and get some feedback from the F150 guru's themselves as I hope to join the ranks of F150 owners.

I am looking at purchasing a 2018 Lariat in Magma Red (absolutely gorgeous color), Black Interior w/ the 3.5L EB, FX4 Package and the chrome package (not my taste but I can fix that) along with all the other bells n whistles minus the Pano roof it looks like. The truck has 49,147 miles, 1 owner, Clean CarFax, No Accidents, No open TSBs, No title issues, basically nothing bad from what I can tell without seeing it in person.

Asking price is just under $42k.

A big concern I have is the mileage, considering it's just under 3 years old this seems a bit high, and with the drive-train warranty running out soon (I believe it is 50k miles?) I wonder if I am possibly purchasing a headache or if I should look at other options? I know the EBs have been proven reliable multiple times over, specially with the later years and gremlins worked out, but anything can happen and they're not simple engines to work on. I'm no mechanic but I do work on my own vehicles unless it's requiring a lift and/or a lot of cursing.

I was initially looking for a Raptor but right now they're so hard to find exactly what you want without having to travel across the country for one. The reality is I just want to buy a truck I can be very happy with for a long time and since I'm not going raptor it's going to be modified quite a bit overtime. I haven't even seen the truck in person and I'm already planning things out for it.

So my question is, should I be concerned about the miles? If I'm buying this truck from a non Ford Dealer can I purchase a warranty from them that Ford honors? Should I ask for a slightly lower price to compensate for the cost of a warranty or is that asking too much?

tl;dr Wanting to buy a 2018 Lariat with 49k miles for $42k, wondering if this a good price point or not for the mileage and trim.

Just on the mileage aspect.....

What if this truck was 8 yrs old with this mileage?
Would you consider it high then?
Miles is miles, never understood the concern for the time period part. Hell, if nothing else it shows these miles were probably hwy, steady state type miles.

As for asking for a lower price, it's NEVER asking too much.

True, I honestly really didn't care about it too much until someone pointed them out. Honestly any engine these days will go 150k+ easy if maintained properly assuming there's no design/product flaws.

I've seen some similar in the mid 30s, I don't want to be rude so I was thinking about asking for $38k.

What was the original sticker (ballpark)? 42k sounds quite high to me. needs to be well over 30% off original sticker.

I haven't spoken to them about price if that's what you mean. It was posted for $45k earlier last month and they just recently lowered it. I wasn't waiting for it, just came across it.

Brand new it was sticker for $60k. I was thinking about asking for high 30s because of the miles, not sure if that's a good negotiator to lean on.

I've looked but trying to get matching features really jacks up the price on them at one of the local dealers plus some of them are only available with the lariat. Also everything around my area is limited on color and options.

I could order but I feel like that's gonna be insane on the price difference.

I did get pre approved for 0% (at least I think it's that it didn't say the interest rate) for $42k which isn't bad. I'm planning on putting down 10k towards it to help.

I'm really torn. Part of me just wants to wait but I don't know what good that will do.

The price might be a little high, but I’m comparing it to looking at trucks near me (central Indiana) for the miles and age they are mid to high $30’s, a couple platinums were in the low $40’s. 50,000 miles isn’t that big of a deal, especially if it was maintained properly. To me, 100,000 miles isn’t that big of a deal, they’ll still have plenty of miles left in them.

Around my area, a well equip Lariat should be around 38k. Unless its CPO then 40k so alittle high. I would go lower then that and do 36k out the door. but walk in already pre-approved for that truck and that amount.

Run the info on the truck for your area over at www.kbb.com That'll give you a ball park figure to work with.

Probably had an msrp around 55k new. 2 years later with almost 50k miles and asking $42k. That seams to be the norm if you compare the price to other f150s. The age of a vehicle has a bigger influence on its value then miles. That truck could have 100k miles and still he worth 30k-35k
