Looking to by a 05 fx4 NEED HELP!
Hi guys, I am looking to possibly purchase a 05 FX4. It has a mild lift and slightly larger tires, no bed liner. The mileage on the truck is 64,000 and is in nice looking shape. I am curriouse about the miles and it being dependable? The owner states he put on about 50,000 of those miles with no problems. He does towe a mid size trailer, 1 car maybe on occasion. What do you think a fair price might be? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am also looking to plow with the truck, just my drive way though about 50 feet.

Welcome to the board, John!
I am not sure about a fair price, but the truck should be more than reliable if the current owner took good care of the maintenance. As far as plowing with an F150, you will need to strengthen the front suspension for the extra weight of the plow and bracket, that's what I have read anyway, others may have differing opinions.
Good luck!

There are several options for plows with an F150. The Western Suburbanite and Fisher Homesteader (exact same plow), are extremely light duty plows designed just for doing driveways. They're only 280lbs I think. No modifications are necessary for those.
Also, the Snoways, and Buyers Snowdoggs (model MD75) are pretty cool, and light enough for the truck to carry.
My theory is that if you have to beef up the front end that much to carry the plow, it probably is too much plow for the truck anyway. The F150, and all other half-tons these days are not recommended for plowing. There are many reasons for that, besides just the weight on the front axle. (engine cooling, transmission temp, overall GVWR).

not sure about your area but trucks are fairly cheap right now. A truck similiar to that would go from 11000-18000 here in idaho. That is with 4x4 xlt or higher. Wish i was looking for a truck now i could have saved at least 3000 from 2.5 years ago. Oh well still like my truck. just wish it was a f250 diesel crew cab.
