Are Long Bed F150s like Elvis Sightings?
That is to say, elusive and are probably figments of the imagination?
I swear, it seems like they don't exist on the used market.
My 2000 plain Jane V6 XLT 8 footer with 4wd is succumbing to the rust monster and I'm starting to search for a replacement. It's fine mechanically, but parts of the frame are flaking off, the lower door panels and nearly gone, and the rear wheel wells will have quarter sized holes soon. I'm already on my second bed.
I know that I can order a new one, but 90% of my driving needs can be met by a smaller car. So I'm thinking about taking what *could be* new truck money and getting a new ecobox in the $15-18k range and only spending $10-12k on a new to me truck. No more than I would use it, it should last me for quite a while.
The problem, though, is that no lots near me have used long beds. When I do find them online, they tend to be high mileage or beat up contractor trucks. It seems like most cases that they are only 2WD.
I was talking it over with a dealer a few years ago and he mentioned that less than 10% of all new trucks are of the long box variety and are typically ordered by contractors and the like. Regular Joes opt for quad cabs and shorter beds so dealers typically won't stock something they will have a hard time selling. He doesn't see any ordered locally and thought that most were going to Southern states, hence 4WD not needed.
Stepping up to a Superduty gets more availability, but then the overall cost of ownership rises accordingly.
Any other long box lovers have similar woes?

My dad has one it's a 10 with 4.6 2v, 2wd and the old 4spd auto. Manual windows and doors and rubber floors. It does have ac and decent stereo with cloth seats. It's a nice basic truck. He might sell it soon as he has had guys offering and it's paid off. He is also getting the 2015 itch

I still see a lot out there and in the used market in my area but they are definitely vastly outnumbered.

I was looking through Fairway Ford's website and of the 150 or so F150's they only had one HD with long bed.

You can get them, but they are rare. I've only seen a few. Only way is to also get a standard cab, which no consumer wants today. Very honestly, I would have taken a 8' box over my 6.5, but again, it wasn't an option. I also would have taken a manual, but that's a topic for a different thread...

My neighbor has one, 08 xl supercab long bed with a 8 ft bed and a super tall bed cap. Looks so goofy!
