Question leveling kits and tire clearance

My truck is a stock 2012 f150 XLT, 4x4, 3.7, super cab. I'm looking to upsize my tires but don't want to get into a lift just yet. I don't want anything monstrous just a larger all terrain type tire. Anybody have any suggestions on tire sizes? What I'm trying to do is go as big as I can without lifting and without having too much tire stuffed into the fenders. Currently running the stock 18" rims but considering dropping to a 17".

Do you have any brake problems with the 16" wheels on your truck? Smallest wheel diameter has been 17 inch since 2004...on your 12 model truck a 33" tire will fit at stock height on a 4x4.

18" rims not 16, fat fingers and phone keyboards sometimes don't get along. meant to say 18" and maybe going to 17" if I replace the rims to, to much chrome for my taste. Bought the truck used a few weeks ago. So 33's should clear fine without doing anything, don't even need the front leveling kit?

I've got 275x60x20 Toyo AT2's on my truck (33x11) and they cleared with no problems at stock height...I did level the truck later.

I would think a 285x65x18 would be the limit on a stock height 4x4...a 285x70x17 would clear if you went to 17" wheels. No leveling kit would be needed.

Did you install your leveling kit yourself? And when using the bilstein shocks did you reuse the factory springs? I was looking at rancho's quick lift leveling kit but I've noticed more people seem to go with bilstein 5100's. Is that because of the price difference or are the bilstein's better quality?

I bought the Bilsteins at a local offroad shop and had them do the install and alignment after. Used the factory springs and have about 20K miles since the install and they've been great so far. I have the Bilstein's in the rear also and it makes the truck ride more stable then with the factory shocks. The front shocks have 4 settings you can use and I picked the 2nd from the top or 1-1/2 inches.

Here's a picture of the front shocks set at 1-1/2 inches. This is with 33" Toyo tires on the truck.

If I stick with my Lariat [thinking of New Gen2 King Ranch] i'm going to make some changes like Bilstein 5100, yours looks real good & the 1 1/2 setting & some different wheels [chrome] & tires..

What are the Specs & complete size #'s on your 33" Toyo's ??

It really just depends on how big that you want to go. I have an 1.5 inch level and run 33 inch tires, but there's alot of people that run 34 inch tires with a level and no issues. If you have no problems with trimming you could even squeeze on 35s with a level being that you have a 4x4.

22×9.5 with a -6 offset with 33x12.5 m/t's seems to be the biggest tires you can go with this particular offset.
