I chose the FX4 because I liked the overall look better. I prefer the blacked out headlights and tails without the chrome trim. I think the paint to match bumpers just tie everything together. I do wish my rear seat had the fold down section in the middle because I think the headrest is too tall...blocks my vision.
I am very happy overall with my choice. Either way, you will have an awesome looking truck.

chrome package?

18"s or 20"s on either truck?

Do you want navigation and moonroof?
I didn't want the chrome package. I dont mind the chrome grill insert but the chrome mirror caps, muffler tip and wheels I didnt like. They both have the stock 18" LT Tires. I dont like moonroofs. To me, it seems wasteful. They cook the interior on hot days. When they are open, they are noisey and let dust in the cab. I live in a mining town, so there is a nice bit of dust flying around. They do however, add resale value to the truck. I like the navigation because of the bigger screen for the camera and the built in hard drive for music. As far as the navigation goes, I have a garmin gps that has lifetime updates. I only use it on vacation once a year. But it also adds resale value to the truck. For something that costs $1300 (moonroof) and $2300 (Nav) It seems a bit much.

Auto 4wd is only available on Lariat and higher trim levels. At least in Canada they are.

Fully equipped lariats have more features than the fx4, keep looking for a loaded lariat and you won't miss out on the goodies.

My 2004 FX4 with 125,000 miles is holding up fine paint wise. If you look closely it obviously has chips....But its not as bad as you make it sound.
I've seen plenty of chrome bumpers pitted and starting to rust. When chrome goes south its bad....and its harder to fix than painted bumpers.

If thats the main concern spend a little money to get the clear paint protection put on and boom...you get the better looks of the FX4 and the paint chipping worries are gone.

I took the head rest out when I bought the truck. I couldn't see anything when in reverse with it. Now it sits in my closet until I decide to sell truck

Agree on the moonroof and nav part. Waste of money in my opinion. And you are right that they add value to the truck... BUT, they also add to the MSRP and the initial price you pay. If you take those off of the fx4, it will be cheaper than the lariat by a few hundred.

Or you can wait, order a '13 and get my ford touch......

Ultimately it is your decision and you need to decide what you will be happy with and not what most people on the forum think you should get.

So Ur saying paint is more durable then chrome? I don't think so i had ptm bumpers on my last truck and it sucked every 2 years it needed painted.and as far as better looks of the fx4 i don't think its a better looking truck but to each its own i prefer the look of a lariat but that's me.
