Default Key Fob needs new battery already

In September I purchased my 2018 Lariat with 3.0 and with less than 2k miles on it I'm already getting a warning on the instrument panel that the key fob battery needs to be changed. I never once changed the battery in the key fob for my last truck which was a 2012 XLT with 5.0. Its not that big of a deal to change the battery but damn that was quick!

You know you got a good truck when your biggest complaint to bring to this forum is a dead key fob battery.

Your Lariat's key fob is constantly transmitting a signal even when it's just sitting on the table. Your old 2012 only transmitted a signal when you pressed a button. With that said, yes the new one's battery died prematurely but it's a just a battery the dealer will change them for free for you. But you should expect the batteries in a intelligent access fob to die quicker than the old ones.

Battery Plus will sell you a life time battery exchange , cost me about 20.00 and included both batteries. Now when the truck tells me I need a battery in my fob I stop by Battery Plus and swap out dead batteries for new ... no fuss no muss .

I have an 07 Tacoma with almost 200,000 miles on it and the batteries in the remotes are still factory. I bought my 2014 Ford used in 2016 with only 17,000 miles on it and the key fob batteries on both keys were already bad. I replaced them 2 1/2 years ago and they are still working. Not a major issue, but Ford must use cheap batteries.

Head to FleaBay and for a whopping US$3.49 order 10 x Fresh PANASONIC CR 2025 CR2025 ECR2025 LITHIUM COIN CELL Battery Exp 2027
& then you'll be able to energize your fobs for quite a few years at a cost of $0.72 each time...... BTW a 2-pk @ Walgreens is currently about $5.99
