Just had tire replaced- should I be mad about my experience?
I took my truck (2016 XLT, 17K miles) to a local tire shop this morning because I had a slow leak in one tire. They said that I have a nail near the sidewall and that I need a new tire. Said they have the tire I need in stock and it will run me $254.
Problem is- when I got home I realized that they gave me a different tire than what was on it originally. The truck has stock Goodyear Fortitude HTs and they replaced it with a Goodyear SR-A. I'm not a tire guy, so I'm asking, is this acceptable? Is it OK to mix tires like that? Should they have told me that they would replace with a different tire (they made it sound like I was getting the same as what I had on there already)?

If they told you they had the tire you need in stock and you did not get it.. I would demand the correct one... why did you drive off with the wrong tire.. you should of pointed it out to them right away. Either way I would make them order me the matching tire.

Take it back. The SR-A is a cheaper tire than the fortitude, which is what you paid for

Just one of those things, man. The tires are very similar looking and I didn't realize it until I got home to take a closer look. I guess I had enough faith in the customer service that I didn't think I had to check to make sure it was a matching tire.

Hell...if you're in my part of Texas I have 3 GY Fortitudes 275/65/18 sitting my garage with 4,000 miles on it. I'll give all 3 for $150.
They were a great street tire but for muddy trails, blah. Switched to all terrains like all my other trucks.

Kinda sucks about having to buy a new tire. Years ago they would have patched it, but not today. I've done a couple myself that I knew a tire store wouldn't touch. All 4 tires were close to needing replacing, but didn't have the funds at the time for 4 and didn't want to buy 1 new one then 3 more in 6 months. Plugged it and rode it for a while.
They should have never sold you a different tire. It is best for all 4 to be exactly the same with very close to the same mileage. But you should never have different tires on the same axle. Handling and braking can be compromised. A reputable tire store would advise you not to do this. I can't imagine them doing it unless it was a simple error on their part.
Take it back and demand the same tire on all 4 corners.

My tires were good but I got a staple in the right rear, the electrical home cable type, said they couldn't patch it with two holes being so close together. They said the Michelins I have were NLA and sold me a Nexen. Looks the same but never even heard of the brand. The whole job was about 160$ though and I don't like driving with a patch. Probably was my own staple too!
