It's built in. No external cap required however you can get a locking plug from Ford if you like. https://accessories.ford.com/locking-fuel-plug.html

that plug will NOT fit the 15-17 models. They redesigned it, and so far FORD has not come out with a replacement....
I have two of the others just laying around now.

I'm here!
Has to be said: I'm giggling somewhat.
I have lurked for a while before I picked up my truck.
Even though the truck is a Ford, I kind of expected that for plastic that you can see, it would be finished and not look like it was from the dollar store.
I wouldn't expect that as part of a test drive I would need to look in every nook and cranny to check that anything that was customer facing was properly finished. Even if it was or was not on a test truck, not sure I would think on a purchased truck it would be a half assed job. Blame China sure.
I was figuring it was built on 5/5 so that was my misfortune. (jk)
Gas cap I do like though. Not having to waste 10 seconds opening one, in filling up a 36 gallon tank is priceless. :-)
Don't get me wrong.. I love the truck, coming from a decent BMW and previously Audis. Just stupid stuff is baffling.
And while I have the floor for a second, who cares about gas mileage. Get a Prius. Or go to Europe for a week, then come back and appreciate the crazy cheap gas.
Happy Friday all.

All I can say is....
If you are used to BMW's, Mercedes, Audi's, Royles Royce, etc. of course the build quality and fit/finish will be better than a Ford.
I can look at my Ford truck, and see that the fit/finish is no where close to some of the higher end luxury cars I've been in. That being said I'm not going to complain about it because I know what I bought/have and it's great for what it is.

I'm going to guess it may be made of a durable structural foam actually. If any one owns a DeWalt tough system tool box it's made of that exact material and it has that same almost brushed/scratched look. I had those tool boxes and when I opened my center console on my 2017 Platinum, I instantly thought of my tool box and how it looked very similar.
