Default How much should I expect to lose?

Before I ask, I realize that driving habits will play a big role, but I know the tire/level will as well... So...

Roughly, how many MPGs should I expect to lose when going from a highway tire to an all terrain tire, and leveling my truck (I assume 2" in the front...)?

I currently have Continental CrossContact LX20 with ecoboost technology on 20" rims.

As of now, the computer says 18.7mpg. I drive about 75% highway.

I don't gun it or speed or anything crazy.

I would say a good rule of thumb for a level and tire upgrade/change would be 2-3MPG loss.

I am guessing 1 of those mpg loss is from the level?

It is rolling resistance. I've seen a pretty consistent 2 mpg difference between All Terrain tires and a true Mud Tire. Same vehicles, same E rating on the tires, same tire size, no lift, every thing stock. Just MT's vs AT's.

Start lifting, adding weight and hurting aerodynamics with accessories and you'll lose another 1-2 mpg.

So, it is not all about the weight of the tire?

Tire weight, rolling resistance, wind resistance due to the nose of the truck riding higher all contribute to economy loss. I'm currently getting 11mpg city on a 4" lift, LT 35x12.50x18 BFG K02 AT's and a custom 93 race tune with spirited driving.

Honestly if you really worry about fuel economy, should you have purchased a 7000lb truck?

I did just a level on my truck 1st. Ran it that way for a year. Didn't loose any MPG's. Added 285/55/20's up from 275/55/20 and they were 21 lb heavier all terrain tires. Lost about 2 MPG. Got a tune from MPT and gained 1 MPG back. SO overall, I'm down about a single MPG.
