I would swap the bed or treat the rust and slap some flares on. I would use amazon for the flares, should be cheaper than 600.

Rust sucks. I'm lucky that it isn't a problem here. I have a friend with a 1997 closing in on 500,000 miles. The body and interior is in near perfect condition. He had the transmission rebuilt at about 450,000. Still the same 5.4 engine.

There is plenty on here with 200k miles.

I’d personally treat the rust and put the flares on it for $600. Then I would start looking for something new. The 5.0 and even the 3.3 will out perform you 4.6 and the new trucks are mostly aluminum which won’t corrode as fast.
