How long will the Ecoboost last?

I bought the truck at 11,000 miles. I changed the oil every 5000 miles with Valvoline durablend. I performed all maintainance. I put plugs in at 60,000. Changed coolant at 90,000. Tranny fluid at 95,000. New plugs again at 100,000. Here is the kicker...put a custom tune at 103,000. Failed at 105,000. Also drive mostly highway miles. Do a little off roading during hunting season. Still original brakes, I'm not a mash the gas, slam the brakes kind of driver.

Hi I am looking for a new truck. I own a small lawncare company so I will be pulling a trailer 4 days a week and then using the truck as a DD the rest of the time. I am thinking about getting a Ecoboost but I want the truck I get to last 200k+ miles if I take care of it. I am wondering if anyone has an Ecoboost as a work truck and how the like it. The other thing I'm looking at is the 5.0 I know it get worse milage but if I'm towing a trailer often what would be better I also feel that with the 5.0 I won't have to worry about it not lasting a long time. if anyone has anything that might help I would like to know thanks.
Have you seen the Ecoboost torture test? There may be some skepticism that Ford actually did what the video claims.

^^^ Yeah, you may beat it a little bit, but how many miles a year are you doing this? It will take a long time(if ever) to recoup your total cost of changing trucks, if you base it on MPGs difference.

But yet you are blaming Ford?? Something tells me the dealer doesn't know about this custom tune that killed your engine. Either way I consider this shady ownership abuse and trying to get a manufacturer to cover it.

That is definitely the kicker.....

then why the need for a custom tune??

I bought the tuner for towing tune. It came with performance tunes. So, I do not mash the gas, especially when towing.
I'm not sure still if the tune ruined the motor or not. Maybe the extra power found a weak link...I'll never know. I do know I'll never tune another vehicle just to be on the safe side.

Not asking Ford to cover any of it...and they were told about the tune upfront. I'm not shady at all.

Good luck with your replacement.
This is also why I'm apprehensive about any aftermarket tunes.

Excellent point, but you can certainly help yourself and educate yourself if you already have a tune. All of the SCT programmers can datalog and any tuner worth a crap can get you the instructions and even send you the configuration file to put in the datalogger software so you don't have to guess about what to monitor or how to do it.
After you drive it for awhile and have it take all those measurements (many many times a second most times), you can then send back a ridiculously large Excel sheet that shows everything that happened while you drove it. Fine tuning and further adjustments can be made to ensure that your truck is running safely and in a conservative range.
I've had both my EB's tuned and never an issue. I routinely send datalog files to the tuner and have them make adjustments if necessary just to be sure the truck is still doing what it should. Extra insurance there just to be on the safe side.
Lastly with respect to your comment on my post earlier, as time goes on I"m sure there will be shops and locations that will stock rebuilt turbos for these trucks so your down time is minimal, you get a core charge, and send the busted one back when done. Just like an alternator or other item you buy. There are many turbo shops around the country that stock rebuilt factory turbos for that very reason on a lot of other OEM turbo vehicles. With the sheer volume of what Ford is selling of these trucks, I'm sure an option will eventually pop up and you won't even be down more than a few hours to perform the swap of the turbo(s). Right now unfortunately that isn't an option, but I certainly hope and assume that eventually it will be.
