I either do oil changes myself (keeping receipts) or have them done at a small shop/service station near work. They have a good reputation (they service all the State Patrol Vehicles), it takes them 20-30 minutes, and I am standing right there watching and chatting with the guy while he is doing the oil change. I usually bring the filter & oil.
I somehow do not trust a place where I can not see what is (or is not) done. I once read a report where different dealers were tested. A 30K miles service was supposed to be performed, and vehicles were prepped with a few extra (common) flaws. It was a disaster. From not finding any of the (easy to find) problems all the way to not doing the oil change at one place (they marked filter and drain/fill screw positions).
Not saying all dealers are like that, but I want to see that it's done. I know I'm paranoid.
I also use synthetic oil, and with that one, I am pretty sure it gets messed up on a regular basis. Heck, they have 3 hoses hanging there, pumping oil from different jugs. The guy would have to actually read the service order, and then remember instead of just grabbing the hose he grabs most of the time. What are the chances of that happening, lol?
Even dealers employ guys to do just oil changes, no different than the jiffy lube type places, who are not all that well trained from what I have seen and heard. Chances are it won't be the certified Ford mechanic who is changing the oil.

Make my appts for early in the am. So I'm out of there in less than an hour, which includes tire rotation..

Well I used to work at my local ford dealership and I know the lube tech very well and they even pick my truck up all for $35 so I think I have it pretty good. Hell sometimes I'll be out of town and I'll have them service my truck and they let me pay when I get back into town

Amen flix! I've just seen too many mess ups. Dealer stripped my oil plug last time I had them do oil/filter change. I had two free changes when I bought the truck is the only reason I let them do it, and look what happened! These filters on my '02 are terrible to get at, but I have kind of figured out how to get to them, takes me about 30 minutes, and, I know it's done right with synthetic oil and Ford filter I buy for less than half the cost. Last I checked at a local shop, not a dealer, they wanted over $70 for oil/filter change with synthetic!! I can do it for about $25!

I make an appointment and I'm out in about 30 mins. As for the "are you sure they're really doing it?" comment, the service bay is open to viewing so the probability of the service trying to sneak around is pretty slim.

If I can't watch them do it, I won't have them do it. That basically eliminates the dealer.

kinda off topic, but I took it to the dealer to have them do the airbag recall. They said 20 minutes, I went and looked at the new f150's. I wanted to see the ecoboost up close and personal. I got back t othe service side. I swear they didn't move the truck at all. They said it was done. They didn't even turn off the radio, so I doubt they did anything to it. B@stards

I had my first Oil Change/Tire Rotation done two weeks ago...drove in at 4:30 pm, drove out at 5:00 pm...they may have sped things up due to the last appointment of the day.

Most larger dealerships have a quick change type service. I can not see why it would take more than 30 minutes, tops, unless there happens to be too many people waiting at that particular time. I like using my dealer, (Dan Weibold Ford, Idaho) because they do a fantastic job, and have well trained people. They found a slow leak in the AC system of my 2011 Mustang GT that I would not otherwise have known about. I just bought my F-150 from them, and I am very happy with how I am treated there.
