I had a injected 300 in a 94 w/5speed 1/2 ton. Great engine but kinda sucked on gas mileage. 10-12 in town 15 on highway. a heavy *** 250 is not going to be any better on gas.

Yeah should have mentioned the gas mileage on my 95 was about 17 no matter how I drove it. It even stayed over 15 towing the boat to Dale Hollow Lake in TN.

I had a co worker that had that I6 in his F250 and had over half a million miles on it. Only things replaced was the water pump, transmission rebuilt, and a couple of head gaskets.
Why can't modern engines do this?

They can but most of us don't jeep them long enough. The i6 had an advantage though in the fact that it really never exceeded 4500 RPM and had the same cooling system as the 302 and 351.

Mine was in a red '87 stepside. The wood in the bed was from Canada. Man I loved that truck. Occasionally the starter would hang and keep turning over. I drove the wheels off they thing as it was my first truck. Second was a '92 5.0 5 speed.
