Help! Possible short or electrical problem?
 

I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my husband's truck. It is a 2001 Ford F150 Super Crew. It started with selective starting... It would start up, I'd drive somewhere like the bank or the grocery store and when I went to leave it wouldn't start back up and I'd need a jump. We took the battery to Kragen, they tested it and told us it was fine. Then the truck started blowing a fuse every time it got a jump start (Always the fuse that controls the windows, cab lights, locks, and the shift lever). We ended up taking the truck to an auto shop and they said it was just the battery. We replaced the battery a few days ago and the truck continued to blow the same fuse every time we started it. Now it blows that fuse every time we put a new one in, so basically the truck cannot move. Any ideas what could be wrong with it? Thank you so much for any help!!

these trucks have a bad problem with the windsheilds leaking water into the fuse boxi would definitly check the fuse box for burnt wires...also open the doors and try putting a fuse in...maybe a wire is pinched in were the wires go through

It would help to know exactly which fuse is blowing all the time.

perhaps the brushes on the starter are gone?

I had a problem with my power windows and locks along with interior lights ect... it ended up being what Ford calls a gem control module it is possible that it could be shorting out and blowing fuses as well... i think it costs 285-350 through ford... just an idea n good luck

The fuse is number 15. It is in the inside fuse box under the steering wheel, not the one in the engine area.

That fuse, 5 amp, feeds The GEM (Generic Electronic Module) as well as the BPP (Brake Pedal Position) switch. If the BPP switch is shoterd out it can blow the fuse. Disconnect the BPP switch. It is on the Brake pedal push rod. You cannot miss it if you look at the brake pedal to see where it pushes the rod into the firewall. Try replacing the fuse. If it pops it isn't the BPP switch. Look for chafed wires near at the connector. So if the wires are OK and the fuse still pops plug the connector back in. Check the top side of the fuse panel for water. The windshield has been known to leak and cause the GEM to short out. The GEM is attached to the top of the fuse panel. You have to remove the fuse panel to get to it.
