Unless you have all of the specialty tools and the knowledge of how to use them, I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. If you don't get the proper clearances set, you'll do more damage than good while wasting all that money in parts, and will end up replacing the engine anyway. I suggest buying a rebuilt crate engine. Then all you will have to do is transfer over the external parts, like valve covers intake, etc.. You will also have some kind of warranty on it as long as you follow the rebuilders instructions on break-in.
