I think for forty bucks. I'm going to give it a try also. The worst case scenario I'll be out forty bucks.

I got a Go Pro for Christmas and had it mounted on my fender when the suction cup mount failed, and the camera fell off and got ran over by my back tire....The mount broke, the camera case, and the little screen on the camera to adjust the settings broke. The camera still works fine though!
Lesson learned: clean the area that you wish to apply the suction cup to!

In the Vendor section, there is a vendor, SundayBuy, that I got a dash cam from. It works really well, it is motion activated, you can overlay your license plate # on it as well as date, time, etc. It has an incredible night time vision. It also as a g-sensor to automatically save a file on the SD card if an impact is noticed, and you can set it to override out dated video, so you are not constantly filling up the card and having to delete files.
It starts up automatically whenever I start my truck and captures everything on it.

I bought one of these about a few years back and it has been great since. It records in HD and will simply fill up the disk as it records and overwrite older data. I can get about 20 days worth before it starts to overwrite. I also have a go pro but that would be overkill I think for this setup.

I run two of them in my truck. One on the front windshield and the other on the back window.
I did not originally purchase them for this purpose however they don't do me any good sitting in a box for other use.
I use suction cup mounts for both. I simply removed the 'arm' from the suction mount and use one of the other attachments for the camera.
For the back window I ran a long mini-usb cable down behind the seat and under my weathertech floor-mat to the lighter/adapter in the back of the center console. because it is a Gopro2... I use the wifi backpack and can turn it on/off/record using my phone.
I've recorded a few incidents of driver stupidity... Being at FT Bragg, NC we are not short of young soldiers in over powered vehicles doing silly things.
I wouldn't recommend buying a GoPro for this sole purpose... not cost effective, but if you are going to use it for other activities (boating, biking, hunting... etc...) you can always use it as a dash cam when not being used for them.

Back in January, Magellan made news by announcing that it would release a personal navigation device with an integrated dash cam. This seems to fit the bill for me as I need to replace my existing PND and also see the usefulness of a dash cam. The cost is reasonable at $229
See the attached link. According to the article, it is to be released in April 2014. The newest article I can find on this item is Jan 2014, so not sure if the Apr date is still on target.
If anybody knows more, please advise
