Default going to test drive 2004 fx4 with high mileage, what should I look for?

Ive posted about opinions on this truck a few weeks ago, another member here ran an autocheck report for me on it, (greatly appreciated) Found out it was registrred as a fleet vehicle, which would explain high mileage, 216000 m. They are asking $5995. Its in great shape, and im thinking being a fleet vehicle that the maintenance was kept up on it. Ive read that after the 5.4 get up to operating temperature the cam phasers will knock if they are bad, is there anything else I should pay close attention too to warm of major issues

Being a fleet truck it could have good maintenance records but also the drivers probably rat bagged the truck. go over every inch of it with a flashlight and bring a screwdriver so you can check for rust. Look on top of gas tank for built up mud possibly hiding a rusted out area. Check all your seat mounts from underneath for cracks (i found this a common problem in fleet trucks from being bagged on) Check springs for cracks. I missed that on my 97 i just bought. Look for hacked wiring jobs. If you can bring a jack lift the front tires and check for bad ball joints, ujoints, etc

Ask for a copy of the maintenance report for it, if they hand you a bag with a few receipts in it,.....RUN. The maintenance log should be very detailed if done properly. At least that's how it is with the fleet I service.

I've never seen a fleet truck that wasn't driven like crap, people don't take care of it cuz it's not there's. As for the maintenance, not necessarily means it was taken care or how it was supposed to. Personally I'd pass on a fleet truck

That is only one small part of and in your world, with that said I have seen many that were as pristine as the day they rolled off the lot. I have worked in on and around fleets of many types and you are right, a lot of them do just the bare minimum to keep them running, that's why I suggested he get a detailed maintenance log. No log, No deal!!!

sure they're not all abused probably, just saying why take a chance when there's plenty of just as good deals out there where the possibility is at least a little higher they weren't treated like crap

But idk that is fairly cheap, the 5.4 3v would scare me away, I've never personally been around one of the early ones that hasn't fell apart before 200k, but hey I guess if you trust it why not.
