Will come on high trim trucks initially.

Can't wait for the Ford commercial that drops a load of bricks into the Chevy bed and damages it.
Fact is, any bed can be damaged and GM/Chevy got a lot of mileage out of that commercial the last couple of years.

People are flaming them pretty hard in the comments on this article. GM guys or not. Lol. That's going to be EXPENSIVE to purchase, and forget trying to repair that.

After the hell they've been raising over Ford's aluminum beds they'll have a horrible time if they go to aluminum beds. Lol. I wouldn't think cf would be a good plan for a bed...

and that my friend, is why the engineers are mad at the marketing team..

to meet the EPA regs, eventually GM will more than likely go that route for weight savings to increase MPGs. When that day comes, i assure you, they will be eating crow from Ford's marketing team lol

For anyone curious, the impact resistance of carbon fiber isn't near as good as aluminum. This video clearly shows it, and even with the composites towards the end you'll notice a significant crack which will then be a really weak point.

You could build a honeycomb CF bed that was plenty strong, but I suspect this move is simply because the marketing has backed the engineers into a corner. I can't imagine how this is a better overall solution than aluminum.

I can't wait to see a GM truck with a CF bed. I'd be the first one to "drop a load" in it!!!!

Strong sure, able to withstand impact not likely. CF doesn't have a high impact resistance, but it does have a high tensile strength/load bearing capacity. So I don't disagree with you completely, as it could be plenty strong, but it would likely fail their "strong bed test" pretty catastrophically, and would still be crazy expensive to repair/replace. Plus, there's no recyclability (spelling?).
