Get your CarFax...FREE

Very nice thing to do I agree. However, just a heads up on CarFax... I saw a report on 20/20 last night about CarFax and although it may report a lot of things, they still recommend you get it checked out by an independent mechanic before you buy. They showed quite a few vehicles that showed a "clean" CarFax report but had actually been in serious accidents that CarFax didn't show. Most people are probably aware of this, but I was surprised to see how often Carfax doesn't show what other reporting companies report. Car dealers are working the system as well by already knowing what the history of a vehicle is (by Carfax) and proudly displaying the report for showing cars. Some people see a clean CarFax report as being the entire truth to a vehicle's history and that's just not the case in a lot of situations. I would use CarFax as well as getting it checked out by a reputable mechanic before I bought anything.

Also, check with AutoCheck because they're the next biggest vehicle history reporters. There's no possible way for any one site to know everything about every vehicle. You can completely total a vehicle, never tell the insurance company, rebuild it, and the history reports will still show accident free. That would be an extreme and rare case, but a possibility.
I would also like to say that not all dealerships selling used cars "take advantage" when a vehicle has a clean CarFax. In one that I am personally a part of, the customer knows as much as the dealership knows about the vehicle before buying.
Not all used car salesmen are liars as alluded to in that show there are actually some honest people out there, believe it or not.
Thanks for the input!
