So when you're sucking air through it, is air supposed to flow freely like a straw or is it supposed to be blocked completely?

If you were to suck through the black end, you would get air, if through the white end, you should get nothing, the flapper would be closed maintaining vacuum on that end of the system. Do it gently if you try that.

jjc155 thanks for the response. Now if I take it into the dealer will they fix it under warranty? Do they have a way to test the valve.

They'll likely only replace it if they can replicate the problem.
The only way I know to check the valve is as I described above.

I didn't even "check" mine, its a 8 dollar part. I changed it and it fixed it. Figured if it didn't fix it then the dealership could have a wack at it.

From what I have read here and other sites the check valve takes care of the issue about 90% of the time.

Yes, it's a very common thing. After all the years of this happening, it's odd Ford hasn't come up with a more dependable check valve, since they insist on this system.
Personally, I'd prefer to just have some good manual hubs. Drove 4X4's since the mid '70's, and the most trouble free all had manual hubs. Even when whatever version of autolocker was available, I still ordered the manual setup.

does the Motorcraft YG360 part number fit on a 2016 F150? My dealer tried telling me the 16's don't have a check valve??

Yes,it should fit. You might think about a different dealer. He obviously doesn't know how this system works.

Completely agree. A new dealer is in order. I wouldn't trust that dealer to tighten the lug nuts on my truck.

Same part should work on my 2015 correct? I've got the issue now as well. Friday they will be replacing the left hub, but I am just going to replace the solenoid & check valve myself anyway due to the low cost.
