Default Gas mileage is an Issue for sure!!!

I had a 1994 f150 ext cab longbed 2wd with a 4.9 straight six it got an honest 20 MPG Hwy.....
I had to sell(divorce) and bought a 1995 f150 ext cab long bed with a 5.0...... I cannot get better than 14MPG on the Hwy..... I havent checked final drive gear ratio yet but RPM's seem to be in check,, what is everyone else getting in compariable F150's ????
Just to be fair I was traveling 70-75 MPH almost the entire trip and I know that over a 300 mile trip every 10 MPH equals roughly 4MPG over the entire trip but I was driving the 4.9 about the same as the 5.0... any ideas??

your logic confused me, but thats sounds almost right. try a tune up. (spark plugs, spark wires, dis. cap, ign. coil, air filter, oil change, transmission fluid change with new filter *if auto*, fuel filter, and anything else i may have forgotten.) youd be surprized how much thatll change.

but what did you expect when you bought it? a fullsize truck body with a honda civic mpg?

92 f150 supercab, 8 inch skyjacker lift, 38" interco trxus tires, dual flowmasters and a k&n intake = 8 MPG on a good day

Eh, been a long time since I checked - but recall about 10-13, depending on the tailwinds :-) Of course, with the 4WD and the taller tires - has all the aerodynamic efficiencies of a brick wall.

Would think that the later-model 5.0s should do a bit better. Perhaps taking another approach - have you verified the accuracy of the odometer? With my 31s, the speedo/odo is 10% off. Checked by setting the cruise at 60 (1 mile per minute) and going 10 miles down the interstate according to the mile-markers.

One benefit of being 10% slow - the odometer has 10% less miles than actually travelled :-)~ One drawback is having to remember this error so as not to inadvertently help the law enforcement community meet their supposed non-existent quotas for speeding tickets.

We don't drive economy vehicle's, my truck gets about 18 on the highway and 15-16 around town. There are things I can do get a few more miles out of a gallon. But I don't expect to get anything over 20 on a good day. Those of you with 4X4's with all of the extra iron, and drive train drag you lug around will get less. If you have huge tires, a lift kit, etc, etc still less. that is just a fact of life. This is why I am happy to have a 4X2. Which is mostly stock except for fat tires which do increase my rolling resistance a little.
