87 octane or higher. No E85 around here. I don't think I would use it if it was. I try and use TOP TIER gas. Texico, Chevron, Shell, Mobil ect. I refuse to buy Citgo because of political reasons, and BP because of the mess they made in the Gulf.

I only use Exxon, BP, Shell, Chevron, or Texaco gas. But they all have different additives, so I try to switch it up some. Have no idea if I'm really doing any good or if I've just fell victim to a marketing ploy.

I ran only 93 octane in my 5.0 Mustang b/c I read that it produced more HP and got slightly better fuel economy. Was wondering if that was the case with the truck as well.

Sams Club 87 octane. Been using for years. No knocks or pings. Pretty much always the least expensive.

The only way I would go with anything higher then 87 would be towing something heavy through higher elevation's to prevent any knocking. This would be a preventive measure. Chevron bought the Texaco name a few year's ago so both gasolines have Techron in them.

Default Fuel usage

My truck was showroom new and had 87 regular (10% ethanol) in it. The day I bought it I headed off in the NC mountains. At 3/4 tank, I topped off with e85. In the mountains, I was averaging 15.5 MPG. I have the 5.0L V/8 with 3.73 gears. After returning home and the tank near empty, I topped off with e85. My mileage immediately went down to 12.8 in local/rural driving. At near empty, I topped off with 87 octane (10% ethanol) and my MPG shot up to 17 MPG. Even with local driving it doesn't go below 16.5. One thing I noticed when I had the e85 in it was that the exhaust spewed water out when it was cold. It did not do this with 87 octane. I have done a good bit of research into e85 and the government paints a very rosy picture of it. 105 octane, burns cleaner leaving a better carbon footprint and much cheaper than regular 87 octane. Independent research confirms the octane rating and cleaner burning/less emissions. But that is pretty much where it stops. The actual cost to produce and the effect on grocery prices are a big negative. From what I read, we are not doing ourselves (our country) any favors producing this fuel. As always, leave it to the government to stretch the truth. I, me, watashi, will not put it in my tank ever again. I will not even put the 10% stuff in any of my small engines. Check it out and you will find that the 10% ethanol will ruin small engines and boat motors. Oh, one more thing, I use independent stations gasoline. If you follow a tanker from a fuel farm, they could be going to most any of the different brand stations. I don't claim any knowledge about additives from the fuel farms.
