Our gas tax is high, the lowest I found here is $2.65 at Costco. Over in Seattle most are about $3.09, no way I’d fill there with a 36 gallon tank (over $100).

State gas taxes are high in certain states depending on the revenues they payout in Federal taxes, verse what they recieve. A state like I am in (you as well) payout more in Federal than they recieve - so state gas taxes tend to be higher. Also, since state gas taxes go to pay for road and highway repairs, a populous state with lots of traffic (like NY and NJ) tend to have higher gas taxes. I think my state gas tax is something like .31cps and NY is around .43cpg. These do not include the Federal gas tax which is like .18cpg. (Gosh taxes can get confusing....)

That's insane! Here in the good ol corn belt of Iowa it's around $2.10 to $2.49 depending on the station. Costco is always the cheapest at about $2.159 currently
