I bought a fuel filter for my 2000 f150. it came with 2 clear looking clips when i went to change the fuel filter i did not see a place for them to go anyone no what they are for i just left them in the box

When you removed the old fuel filter, were there clips on the line holding it on the filter? Seems to me they included them for a reason. Maybe someone else can tell you exactly where they belong.

Ford has used two types of fuel line retaining clips. Later year models use a garter spring built integral in the fuel line. Probably your type. Replacement filters cover both applications. The external clips have to be replaced every time the connection is taken apart. Internal garter type retainers are good unless they get damaged during disassembly. I am not familiar if the internal garter springs can be replaced seperately if damaged. Just be careful and use the correct tool.

Any recommendations on how to get the old filter off? Special tool, or homemade tool? Engine side is the problem; tank side is not problem at all...

I do believe they sell a special tool for removing the fuel line clips.
Check your local auto parts store.;)

Round Ten Bucks You Can Have The Tool. Local Stores Do Carry Them. When You Insert The Tool, Be Sure To Push The Line And Tool Together Then Leaving The Tool In Place, Hold The Filter And Pull Off The Line. Advise You To Cover It With A Rag To Avoid Fuel Spray Unless You Already Relieved The Pressure. You Can Easily Remove Both Ends With The Tool-don't Advise You Make One Will Probably Cost More Than Ten Bucks When You Get Done:).

the tool i got was like 5 bucks at autozone dont know if you have one where u live but it worked fine for me
